Breaking Historical Records, Devil May Cry 5 Reaches 2 Million Coffee Sales in First Two Weeks

Capcom has posted 2 million copies of Devil May Cry 5 in its first two weeks, the company has announced. This is a significant departure from the previous release, DMC soft-reboot: Devil May Cry, which had fewer sales than expected.

Capcom also notes that the series has now cumulatively sold more than 19 million copies since its debut in 2001. If DMC5 sales remain strong, it will likely help push that lifetime sales figure beyond the 20 million mark.

DMC5 is the first major release for the Devil May Cry series after ten years of waiting. The game brings back Dante and Nero, along with a new character, V, who summons animals in combat. The game’s previous release, Devil May Cry 4, sold 2 million copies in roughly its first month on the market.

“DMC5 is distinguished by its stylish combat style and combat mechanics similar to previous games. These mechanics stick to tradition above all else, pursuing some ambitious new ideas, but for the most part retaining the series’ focus on intricate and stylized combat systems,” writes Matt Espineli in GameSpot in Devil May Cry 5 review.

“Faults are rare, consistently making use of the spectacle and depth of its mechanics to shake off minor frustrations. Meanwhile, the story exudes a charismatic charm that keeps you constantly intrigued as you improve your combat skills. DMC5 proves that the series is still brilliant and imaginative without worrying about its traditions. which has been held for a long time.”
